Stop At: Ninotsminda cathedral, Ninotsminda, Georgia
The complex includes: a cathedral with a dome, bishop's castle, fence and buildings for other purposes. The cathedral dates back to the 2nd half of the 6th century and predates Jvari Monastery at Mtskheta. Unfortunately, the church is quite damaged. The dome and upper parts of some walls were collapsed in the 19th century by an earthquake. A tall bell-tower north-east of the church was built in the middle of the 16th century. Ninotsminda Cathedral is highly significant to the development of Georgian architecture. It's higher then 20m and includes 4 storeys. Three of them are roofed and the last one is an open pavilion with bells. Brick building façade is divided into right-angles with arrow-shaped arches inside. There're crosses in the 2nd and 3rd storey arches. Another important building is bishop's house. Ninotsminda bishop Saba Tusishvili built the house in 1774. The complex is surrounded by a fortification, with corner towers and curtain walls dating from the 17th-18th centuries. The complex is currently functioned as a nunnery.
