Fagaras Mountains also known as Transylvanian Alps belong to the Southern Carpathians covering an area of approximately 3,000 square kilometers. Oriented East-West, their length is about 70 km, from north to south the breadth of the range is over 40 km. The highest peak of both the Fagaras and Romania mountains is called Moldoveanu and rises to 2544 m in the eastern part of the Făgăraş. The destination area is located in the eastern part of the mountain range, in the Upper Valle Dâmboviţa, upstream of the Tămaşul stream. The Fagaras mountains are rich in biodiversity and, according to a recent study, 57 species of mammals live here, in which three large carnivores: the brown bear, the wolf and the lynx.
