In its surroundings not only emblematic buildings converge, symbols of the origin of the city and witnesses of its development of more than four centuries, but also characteristic characters that fill this space with life. Among them, we can find painters who display their art every day, historical photographers or street comedians. The square was designed by the Pedro de Gamboa alarife. Around it, the Cabildo (Municipality of Santiago), the House of Governors (Central Mail), the Royal Audience (National Historical Museum) and the Main Church (Metropolitan Cathedral) were installed.

Inside, a crypt houses the remains of archbishops and bishops of Chile. In addition, it highlights the Monument to the Heroes of the Battle of Concepción, which guards the four hearts of the captains fallen in combat.
Today, thousands of faithful visit it every year. It serves as an outstanding setting for activities of national importance, such as the Ecumenical Te Deum celebration, a thanksgiving ceremony held every September 18, on the occasion of the celebration of National Holidays. The Metropolitan Cathedral was declared a National Monument in 1951.

Stop At: Centro Cultural Palacio de la Moneda y Plaza de la Ciudadania, Plaza de la Ciudadania No. 26, Santiago 8320000 Chile
It is the seat of the Executive Power and one of the most representative symbols of the country's political history. Designed by the architect Joaquín Toesca, this palace is the main work of neoclassicism in Chile. It was inaugurated in 1805 to serve as the headquarters of the Royal Mint of Santiago, intended for the minting of coins. Then in 1846 the government house was moved to that building. Likewise, it became the scene of one of the most decisive events in the history of Chile, such as the bombing that it suffered on September 11, 1973. After that fact, a group of architects restored it, maintaining the original lines designed by Toesca .
Since then it has undergone some changes, such as having been painted white at the end of the last century, or the remodeling of the Citizenship Square, under which the La Moneda Palace Cultural Center was built.

It was declared a National Monument in 1951.
