On this doors-off tour, you’ll have an unobstructed view into Hualālai’s craters including Puhia Pele (“Blown out by Pele” in Hawai'ian), also known as Pele’s Pit - one of the the deepest structures of its kind anywhere in the world. Hualālai Volcano is an important ecological site, home to several rare species which are protected by a nature reserve near the summit, and a National Historic Park down by the coast.

Close to Kona airport, you'll pass over the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawai‘i Authority, a state-run business innovation park where you'll see long algae ponds, solar panels by the dozens, and desalination and water bottling plants in this hotbed of knowledge and research.
