Electric Trams, Mountain Railway and Victorian Marvels in the Isle of Man

Enjoy the unique vintage Victorian charm of the Manx Electric Railway on an unforgettable journey along the east coast on this unique Island to the charming village of Laxey and then to the highest point on the Island on the Snaefell Mountain Railway.
We visit Lady Isabella, the largest water wheel in the world, then ,make a stop at King Orry’s Grave before we reach the picturesque village of Maughold to see the remarkable Viking carved stone crosses.
Heading northwards we reach Ramsey, set against the magnificent backdrop of the North Barrule hills. You then have a choice as to how you would like to finish the day.
Either travel on the Manx Electric Railway to Laxey and travel by road back to Douglas
Or take a tour of the Fynoderee Gin Distillery and then travel back by road over the famous mountain section of the TT course to Douglas.

    Leave Douglas aboard the Manx Electric Railway and enjoy the unique vintage Victorian charm on an unforgettable journey along the east coast on this unique Island on a railway which dates back over 100 years.

    Duration: 50 minutes

    Pass By: Laxey, Laxey, Isle of Man

    Disembark in the pretty village of Laxey and transfer to the Snaefell Mountain Railway.

    Stop At: Snaefell, Laxey

    Travel to the summit of Snaefell, at 2,036 feet (621 m) above sea level - this is the highest point on the Island.

    Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

    Stop At: The Great Laxey Wheel, Mines Road, Laxey IM4 7NL

    Returning down the mountain to Laxey we will visit the Laxey Wheel. Called the Lady Isabella, this is the largest water wheel in the world - built in 1854 to pump the water from the lead mines in the Laxey valley.
    We will have lunch in Laxey.

    Stop At: Laxey, Laxey, Isle of Man

    Travelling northwards we will make a stop at King Orry’s Grave (Gretch Veg) a fine example of a neolithic chambered grave, and a reminder of the ancient history of Mann and the customs of the people who lived here.

    Stop At: Maughold, Maughold, Isle of Man

    We continue along the scenic east coast to reach the picturesque village of Maughold where we will see some remarkable Viking carved stone crosses. Some of these stones picture Viking pagan mythology along with runic inscriptions.

    Duration: 30 minutes

    Stop At: Ramsey, Ramsey, Isle of Man

    Heading northwards we reach Ramsey, the second largest town on the Isle of Man sheltered against the magnificent backdrop of the North Barrule hills. The town has a long promenade and a busy working harbour.

    You now have a choice as to how you would like to finish the day.
    Option 1. Travel on the Manx Electric Railway from Ramsey along the coast to Laxey, then travel by road from Laxey back to Douglas
    Option 2.
    Ramsey is the new home of the Fynoderee Gin Distillery. The name Fynoderee is from an ancient Manx folklore tale, and the distillery is based in a region where the last Manx juniper tree was reputed to grow and where juniper is now being re-introduced. The spirit is produced on flame-fired copperpot stills and flavoured with Manx grown and locally foraged botanicals. (Extra charge upon entry of £10 per person)
    Take a tour of the distillery and then travel back by road over the famous mountain section of the TT course to Douglas.
