Experience the royal side of India at the iconic Pushkar 22 - 30 November 2020

When you think of India vacation, the first vision to come to your mind is of formidable forts, magnificent temples and fantastic palaces. Stunning architecture set against the backdrop of vibrant colours, legendary tales and an interesting history; all of it is synonymous with India and nothing epitomises it more than India’s great north. Embark on a one-of-a-kind adventure of the most fabulous cities of north and North West India. The finest way of touring this great nation is to explore its historical cities in the north such as the national capital of Delhi, the city of eternal romance Agra, and the iconic Mughal city, Fatehpur Sikri. The north-west of India is home to the regal state of Rajasthan where we will embark on a rendezvous with the pink paradise of Jaipur, the iconic ‘Sun City’ of Jodhpur, and the ‘Venice of the East’ Udaipur.     Day 2: Delhi

    Stop At: Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi Road, New Delhi 110002 India
    Meet your private guide in your hotel lobby and drive to the mystical lanes of "Purani Dilli", as the locals call it. We first head to the final resting place of Mahatma Gandhi, The Raj Ghat. Located on the west bank of the Yamuna River, Raj Ghat pays homage to Gandhiji. Beautiful fountains and exotic trees surround the Samadhi on which the Mahatma's final words, "Hey Ram" are inscribed.

    Stop At: Red Fort, Netaji Subhash Marg, New Delhi 110002 India
    We then head to one of the most magnificent creations of the Mughal dynasty, the iconic 'Lal Qila' or Red fort. Originally built in white, like the Taj Mahal, and named 'Qila-e-Mubarak', the Red Fort was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The fort derived its new name after it was painted red by the British when the white sand began chipping off. See the fairytale-esque buildings like the Diwan-i-Khaas and Rang Mahal within the fort's enclosure. After this, we enjoy a cycle-rickshaw ride through Old Delhi's narrow lanes to visit the colourful markets.

    Stop At: Jama Masjid Rd, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, Delhi 110006, India
    We halt to admire the magnificence of the largest mosque in India, the Jama Masjid, where 85,000 devotees can offer prayers at the same time. Commissioned by Shah Jahan, the Jama Masjid was built over a period of 6 years with 5000 labourers at work. After marvelling at two of Shah Jahan's most splendid contributions to Delhi.

    Stop At: Humayun's Tomb, Mathura Road Opp Nizamuddin Mosque, New Delhi 110013 India
    Later head to New Delhi which gives you a glimpse into the magnificent structures of the city, particularly, the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Humayun's Tomb and the Qutub Minar. Our first stop is the mausoleum of Emperor Humayun. Designed by Persian architect Mirak Mirza, the tomb was commissioned by Humayun's queen and chief consort, Haji Begum. The tomb precedes the Taj Mahal in being the first garden tomb in the Indian subcontinent. Humayun's tomb was the first to introduce the distinctive combination of red sandstone and white marble. The complex of the tomb features over 100 graves and the eight side chambers of the tomb symbolize the Islamic concept of paradise.

    Stop At: Qutub Minar, Qutb Minar, Mehrauli, New Delhi 110030 India
    Our next stop is the Qutub Minar. Notably, the earliest specimen of Muslim architecture, the Qutub Minar was commissioned by Qutub-ud-din Aibak, the first Muslim ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. The construction of this gigantic 72 meters-high tower, was completed by Iltutmish, Aibak's son-in-law and successor. This highest single tower in India was built to commemorate the defeat of the last Hindu kingdom in Delhi. Near the Qutub Minar lies, the Quwwat-ul-Islam, considered to be India's oldest mosque.

    India Gate War Memorial, built to honour the sacrifices of the 70,000 martyred Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War.

    We then drive past Delhi's iconic modern day structures like the Connaught Place, The Parliament and The President House. Our tour ends when we drop you back to your hotel.

    Day 3: Delhi to Agra

    Pass By: Agra, Agra, Agra District, Uttar Pradesh
    We begin our day today with a road trip, driving from the political capital of India to the romance capital; the city of eternal love, Agra. Arrive and check into your room where you can freshen up before we begin exploring the city that epitomized true love in the heart of every Indian.

    Stop At: Taj Mahal, Dharmapuri, Forest Colony, Tajganj, Agra 282001 India
    The iconic Taj Mahal, commissioned by Shah Jahan stands in testimony of the eternal love an Emperor possessed for his queen, Mumtaz Mahal. Built by 22,000 men over 17 years of labour, this magnificent Indian landmark is filled with many precious legends. The changing moods of the emperor’s wife are said to be reflected in the changing hues of the mausoleum.

    Stop At: Agra Fort Rakabgani, Agra 282003 India
    After visiting the iconic Taj, we proceed to gaze at another marvel created by another great Mughal ruler, the awe-inspiring Agra Fort, built by Emperor Akbar. The Agra Fort was modelled after the Gwalior fort built by the Rajput ruler Raja Mann Singh Tomar. It was transformed into a palace by Emperor Shah Jahan, who also modelled the Red Fort after the Agra Fort.

    Day 4: Agra to Jaipuer

    Pass By: Agra, Agra, Agra District, Uttar Pradesh
    We begin our day by taking to the roads again, driving from the romance capital, to yet another marvellous Indian city, the Pink paradise of Jaipur.

    Stop At: Fatehpur Sikri, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra District, Uttar Pradesh
    A slight de-tour takes us to the UNESCO World Heritage City, the now abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri, which is filled with innumerable legends and tales.

    Pass By: Jaipur, Jaipur, Jaipur District, Rajasthan
    After witnessing this ethereal city, we head to the royal land of Rajasthan where a new chapter of our exploits awaits. This majestic state is home to so many wonders, and what place is better than the Pink City of Jaipur from where we can begin our royal exploration. Our representative will help you check into your hotel rooms. Get some good sleep, before we begin the second leg of our fantastic tour tomorrow.

    Day 5: Jaipur

    Stop At: Amber Fort Palace, Jaipur 302021 India
    We begin our tour of the regal state of Rajasthan with Jaipur, the city of the stylish royals. We head to the iconic Amber Fort, also known as Amer fort, on the jeep from the fort base. The fort served as the capital of the Kachhawa Rajputs, before the city of Jaipur, as we know it, came into existence. The fort’s romantic aura is evident by its location by the serene Maota Lake in which you can see its reflection. Visit the stunning Palace of Mirrors, the Sheesh Mahal on the fort premises and marvel at its fantastic structure.

    Stop At: City Palace of Jaipur, Tripolia Bazar Near Jantar Mantar, Jaipur 3023002 India
    Next, we head to the City Palace, commissioned in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh, who founded the city of Jaipur. Visit the beautiful Mubarak Mahal within the Palace and see the voluminous royal garbs donned by the mighty King Sawai Madho Singh I, who weighed 250 kilograms.

    Stop At: Jantar Mantar - Jaipur, Tripoliya Bazaar near entrance to City Palace, Jaipur 302020 India
    An ardent lover of science and astronomy, Sawai Jai Singh also commissioned the Jantar Mantar Observatory, which when translated means instrument of calculation. The observatory was built to study time and space in an era without time-telling devices.

    Stop At: Hawa Mahal - Palace of Wind, Hawa Mahal Tripolia Bazaar Road Badi Choupad, J.D.A. Market, Pink City, Jaipur 302002 India
    We then stop by the Hawa Mahal, built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh for the royal ladies to observe everyday street life without being seen. The Mahal’s exterior with 953 windows is akin to a beehive’s honeycomb.

    We finish off our Jaipur exploration with a visit to the vibrant local markets where you can shop your fill of handicrafts and other local specialties.

    Day 6: Jaipur to Pushkar

    Stop At: Pushkar, Pushkar, Ajmer District, Rajasthan
    A new day in the royal state begins with another road trip as we drive from the pink city to the spiritual city of Pushkar. Nicknamed ‘The Lotus Flower’, Pushkar serves as one of the five pilgrimage sites of the Hindu devotees, which is why this vibrant city is always buzzing with tourists. It is said that the city of Pushkar came into existence when Lord Brahma dropped a lotus flower into the Pushkar Lake. This gorgeous city is famous worldwide for the Brahma Temple and the annual Pushkar Camel Fair held in November. Our representative will help you check into your hotel upon arrival in Pushkar. You can freshen up and take the rest of the day to explore the iconic Pushkar fair. Don’t be disheartened if you don’t have enough time at the fair, as we have a whole day dedicated to exploring it.

    Day 7: Pushkar

    Stop At: Pushkar Camel Fair, Rajasthan,Ajmer Pushkar Fair Ground, Pushkar 305022 India
    As we promised, today you have the entire day to explore one of India’s most famous and largest gatherings of people, the Pushkar Fair. Dedicated to the creator of the universe, Lord Brahma, the Pushkar camel fair is visited by as many as 500,000 people. The fair witnesses the presence of 50,000 camels and camel farmers, several musicians, gypsies and over 200,000 global tourists. Celebrated over 8 days, it begins with buying and selling of camels and horses and the festivities take an interesting turn with every passing event from camel races to tribal dances, moustache competitions, and tug-off wars. Enjoy a fun-filled day, one like you’ve never experienced in your life before we move on to the next destination on our itinerary.

    Day 8: Pushkar to Jodhpur

    Pass By: Jodhpur, Jodhpur, Jodhpur District, Rajasthan
    After an extraordinary day in Pushkar, we continue our rendezvous with Rajasthan as we proceed to the ‘Sun City’ of Jodhpur. The city earned the moniker ‘Sun City’ because of the roaring sun that shines brightly over it. Jodhpur is inhabited by several Brahmins and ardent followers of Lord Shiva. It is said that the blue homes in Jodhpur signify the homes of the Shiva-following Brahmins, but many non-Brahmins also began adopting the practice, thus earning the city, its second nickname, ‘The Blue City’.

    Stop At: Mehrangarh Fort and Museum, P.B # 165, The, Fort Rd, Sodagaran Mohalla, Jodhpur, Rajasthan 342006, India
    While in Jodhpur, we first visit the marvel of ancient architecture, the Mehrangarh Fort. The Rathores who believed they were descendants of the Sun God, built this impregnable fort over a period of 500 years. This majestic fort, perched on the Bakhurcheeria cliff is guarded by 7 gates and is 400 meter high above the skyline.

    Stop At: Jaswant Thada, Near Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur India
    We then head to the Jaswant Thada, known for its whimsical domes. The Jaswant Thada is a royal cenotaph built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Known as the ‘Taj Mahal of Marwar’, the cenotaph has exquisite marble latticed screens, built from intricately carved, thin marble sheets. After gazing at these marvellous structures you can take the rest of the day to explore Jodhpur as you please.

    Day 9: Jodhpur to Udaipur

    Pass By: Udaipur, Udaipur, Udaipur District, Rajasthan
    Yet another road trip awaits us as we bid adieu to the Sun City and head for the city of Lakes, Udaipur.

    Stop At: Ranakpur Jain Temple, Desuri Tehsil, Sadri 306702 India
    As we traverse the road, we find it necessary to stop at the tiny hamlet of exquisitely carved Jain temples, Ranakpur. The strikingly remarkable Ranakpur Jain temple complex was constructed in the 15th century. Over 1400 exquisitely carved pillars, boasting of intricate designs, each unique from the other, are constructed in beautiful white marble. Legend has it that it is impossible to count these pillars.

    Day 10: Udaipur

    Stop At: City Palace of Udaipur, Jagdish Temple Rd City Palace Complex, Udaipur 313001 India
    On our final leg of the trip, we explore the gorgeous Lake City of Udaipur. Take a tour of some of the finest monuments in the ‘Venice of the East’, Meet you in your hotel lobby, from where you we begin exploring the sights at City Palace complex. Built on a hill-top on the advice of a meditating hermit, the City Palace is an enthralling marvel of architecture with several halls, palaces and museums on the complex. Constructed of marble and granite, the palace has various gateways including Amar Vilas, Badi Mahal, Chini Chitrashala, Dilkhusha Mahal, Durbar Hall, Sheesh Mahal, and several others.

    The holy shrine of Lord Jagganath, the 17th century Jagdish Mandir is also located on the City Palace premises. This Indo-Aryan styled temple built by Maharaja Jagat Singh, features walls and towers, offering a glimpse into the life of Lord Vishnu and the apsaras.

    Stop At: Sahelion Ki Bari, On the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake, Udaipur 313001 India
    Next visit to the iconic Saheliyon Ki Baari garden built in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh, for the royal ladies. This ‘garden of maids’ is famous for its lush green lawns, intricate marble art elephants, a lotus pool and dazzling crystal fountains.

    Stop At: Lake Pichola, Udaipur India
    Saving the very best for the last, we end the trip on a memorable note with a serene sunset boat cruise over the enchanting Lake Pichola. A 14th century artificial fresh water lake, Lake Pichola is inarguably the most gorgeous site in the royal land of Rajasthan. Take pictures of the stunning Lake Palace and the remarkable Jag Mandir as we cruise through this mystical lake.
