Stop At: Mediana, Nis 18000 Serbia

Our tour starts at 8.30am. You will be picked up from your hotel and after hour and a half we will reach the border between Bulgaria and Serbia. Somewhere 11 o’clock we will arrive at our first site in Nis – Mediana, the Roman villa rustica of emperor Constantine the Great. At first we will be amazed by the size of the place – more than 6000 m2. The ruins will reveal to us the outstanding Roman architecture, preserved remarkably exactly here in Nis. Born and raised in the Roman fortress of Naissos, after becoming an emperor Constantine will plan and build his countryside villa here, so he can return to his roots.

NOTE : Mediana is currently close due to renovations!

    Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Skull Tower, Bulevar Dr Zorana Dindica, Nis Serbia

Our second stop for the day will be the famous Cele kula, or translated from Serbian The Skull tower. The battles for liberation of the Serbians from Ottoman rule will be culminated with the First Serbian Uprising. A consequence of it will be the Battle of Cegar, where 3000 revolutioneries will lost their lives in an uneven fight with the Ottomans. Their skulls will be used by Hurshid pasha to build the sinister tower, which will stand as a warning against other revolutionary attempts. Today Cele kula is unique of its kind monument, representing the atrocities of the Ottomans against the Serbs and their liberation dreams.

    Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Red Cross Nazi Concentration Camp, Bul 12 Februari after the corssing with Alexandra Medvedeva str., Nis Serbia

Our next stop is 12th of February concentration camp, one of the many, built in Serbia during the German occupation. Here stories about the Nazi’s prisoners will be whispered from the walls of the camp, representing to us sad destinies of people, who have fought against the inhumanity of the occupants.

    Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Bubanj Memorial Park, Bubanj, Nis Serbia

Before your free time, we will visit one last place – Bubanj hill, where the prisoners from the concentration camp were shot. Today a 10 meter monument stands proudly here, erected by the Yugoslavian communist party in 1963, to remember to everyone the battle, the resistance and the victory against the German occupants.

    Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Nis Fortress, Nis Serbia

At 1pm our guide will take you to the main pedestrian street of Nis, where you can try the tasty grilled pleskavica – a Serbian food specialty. The pedestrian street will also take you to the Nis Tvrdava or Nis fortress, which today is formed in a nice park, where you can enjoy a small walk after lunch or drink a coffee, surrounded by the ruins of an old Roman baths.
