    Bairro Alto is an old and picturesque neighborhood from the beginning of the 16th century, on one of Lisbon's hills, with narrow cobbled streets, secular houses, small traditional shops, alternative shops, restaurants and nightlife spots. Since the 1980s, it has been the best known area of Lisbon's nightlife, with numerous bars and restaurants, alongside the fado houses.

    Largo do Carmo was the scene of one of the events in Portugal's recent history: the surrender of the Estado Novo to the MFA military on the 25th of April 1974. It is home to the Convento do Carmo, former convent of the Carmelite Order of the Old Observance that was in ruins due to the 1755 earthquake. It is in one of the main testimonies of the catastrophe still visible in the city. Currently the ruins are home to the Carmo Archaeological Museum.

    In 1988, in the early hours of August 25, Chiado was destroyed by fire and its reconstruction took the entire 1990s, leaving the design to architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. Today it is again an important center of commerce in Lisbon, being one of the most cosmopolitan and busy areas.

    From here, we continue to the Miradouro de S. Pedro de Alcântara with a view over the river.

    Descending, we arrive at the São Bento Palace where the Assembly of the Republic meets daily. It is a neoclassical palace that was built at the end of the 16th century as a Benedictine monastery, having undergone major remodeling works in the 19th and 20th centuries.

    At the top of Calçada da Estrela we find the imposing Basilica da Estrela, built in the second half of the 18th century, with characteristics of the late Baroque and neoclassical style.

    The Belém Tower is the peak of the Discoveries epic, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, reflecting Islamic and Eastern influences, which characterize the Manueline style.

    Stop At: Aqueduto das Aguas Livres, Calcada da Quintinha 6, Lisbon 1070-225 Portugal

    On the way to Parque das Nações, you pass under the Águas Livres Aqueduct, an important construction from the 18th century, which allowed water supply to the Portuguese capital and also through the Campo Pequeno bullring.

    In Parque das Nações, in the eastern part of the city, where Expo 98 (World Exhibition 1998) was held, Gare do Oriente, Pavilhão de Portugal, Pavilhão do Conhecimento, Altice arena, Oceanário de Lisbon, one of the largest aquariums in the world and the Church of Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes.
