Are you looking for things to do in Prague Old Town? Try our tourist scavenger hunt to walk the old town while discovering its churches, museums, and other attractions!

It will take you from the Communism Museum to the Charles Bridge Museum through Old Town Square and Adria Palace. You’ll need to solve challenges at every step. Each challenge will tell you where you are going next and a bit of local history and advice.

    You are on the border of the old and the new city and very close to some important Prague theaters. You will end your scavenger hunts with them.
    On the south side of the square you will see merchant tents and a large circular sign.
    The tram tracks arrive from the north and turn left to the south of the square to go east.
    Our scavenger hunt takes you west and south from here.

    The beige building in front of you on the left is the House of the Black Madonna (Durn U Cerné Matky Bozi).
    It is a historic cubist building built in 1911, with an art gallery and a cafe. It contrasts with the baroque style buildings all around.
    Why such a name? Note on the corner in front of you a golden box. It is a statue of the Black Madonna and her child, both wearing a crown.

    Our Lady of Tyn Church. Unfortunately, buildings were erected in front of its facade. Only its back is visible directly.
    Its construction began in 1380 in the Gothic style. The roof was completed in 1450, then the bell towers in 1511. It was a Hussite church until 1626 when it passed into Catholic hands.
    It was completely renovated at the end of the 18th century, then again in 1973 and 1995.

    It is a memorial to Jan Hus. It represents the defeat of the Hussites and Protestants at the battle of the White Mountain (1620).
    Jan Hus (1369-1415) was a theologian, philosopher and rector of Charles University. He reformed the Bohemian church here, from which the Hussism movement was born. This movement led to Protestantism. He was burned at the stake for his heresy against the doctrines of the Catholic Church.
    Following his death, the faithful refused to elect another Catholic monarch and defeated 5 papal crusades carried out here between 1420 and 1431.

    The Stone Bell House takes its name from the carved stone bell located on the right corner of the building, on the first level. It was built in the 15th century.

    The building has a large tower with a clock at the top. It was completed in 1364. The town hall is in fact a collection of a few townhouses connected to each other, all of different styles. They were purchased one at a time to enlarge the city hall. The tower is the latest addition to the building.
    The building is richly decorated from the outside with several statues, coats of arms and various symbols.
    This is in fact an astronomical clock, the oldest still in operation, dating from 1410.

    The Bethlehem Chapel is your next destination. Opposite the museum is Bethlehem Square. In front, on the left is the chapel. It has a thin copper gable, and 2 triangular roofs.
    It is a 14th century medieval chapel, founded in 1391 by Wenceslas Kriz, then restored in 1950. Although it can accommodate 3,000 people, it is not a church. From its beginnings, it presented services in Czech, thus breaking the German tradition.
