Primitivo Experience at Tenuta Viglione close to Matera

The cellar was finished in the early 2000s, but the estate includes a 19th-century farmhouse which has been renovated and opened to hospitality. The large courtyard can host demonstrations and events on occasion. The first Primitivo vineyard, over eighty years old, cultivated as a sapling and still productive, from which, on the contrary, the most prized wine of the production, the Primitivo Riserva "Marpione", is still visitable, of great historical and cultural interest. The harvest is still done by hand, personally supervised by Antonietta, Giovanni's elderly mother.

The cultivated vines are all indigenous: Primitivo, Negroamaro, Nero di Troia, Falanghina, Verdeca, Fiano Minutolo, Aleatico. The cultivation is certified organic. The vineyards, on average at 450 m above sea level, are the highest in central-southern Puglia. The purity of the air is such that more than a swarm of bees spontaneously chose this estate as their home, digging a beehive in the walls of the cellar.
