Stop At: Bjarnarfoss, Snaefellsbaer Iceland
Bjarnarfoss is a beautiful waterfall on the Snaefellsnes peninsula in western Iceland. Bjarnafoss falls from a basalt rock created by the nearby Mulifell volcano. Further, the water goes down and flows through the Bukharaun lava fields and reach the ocean. From the parking spot, we will be able to follow the trail to the small bridge above the stream flowing down to enjoy the view of the waterfall and the surrounding area.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Budir, Budir, West Region
The black church of Budir hamlet has become a very popular subject for photographers, and for good reason. The small freestanding church is a beautiful and minimalist facility nestled in the rugged nature of Iceland. From the church, we shall walk towards the coast to see beaches of yellow sand and black lava rocks, left after the eruptions in the post-glacial period.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Arnarstapi, Arnarstapi, West Region
Arnarstapi, a small charming fishing village on the southern edge of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. This place is known for its tiny harbor and many seabirds in the summer. From the harbor, there is a trail along the coast to Gatklettur (arched cliff), along which we advise you to walk to enjoy the beautiful local sceneries.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Londrangar, Iceland
Two large stone columns, 75 and 61 meters (230 and 200 feet) high, towering over their surroundings on the banks near Hellnar village, are Londrangar. These towers are considered ancient volcanic plugs that have withstood the forces of nature for tens of thousands of years. They withstood the wind, the forces of the ocean, and even the eruptions that pushed even more lava around them thousands of years ago. Londrangar located on the south side at the foot of the Snaefellsjokull volcano. A trail leads from the parking lot towards the coast, which we will follow to enjoy the breathtaking views of the cliffs, the ocean coast, and the colonies of seabirds that inhabit here in summer.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Djupalonssandur Beach, Utnesvegur, Hellnar Iceland
Djupalonssandur is a beach and cove at the foot of the Snaefellsjokull volcano. Once up to sixty fishing boats were based here and it was one of the most productive fishing stations on the peninsula, but today the bay is uninhabited. From the parking lot to the beach, the trail runs through a lava field with a mystical appearance and forms of solidified lava fragments. On the beach, you will find many large and small rounded stones and you can listen to the rustling of pebbles being rolled by the sea waves. You will also find on the beach the remains of the Grimsby Epine (GY7) fishing trawler that wrecked in 1948.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Kirkjufellsfoss, Grundarfjorour Iceland
Kirkjufell is a picturesque mountain overlooking the town of Grundarfjordur. It is known as one of the most photographed local attractions, as well as the Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall at the foot of the mountain.
