Snæfellsnes peninsula
On this route we will explore the National park of Snæfellsnes Peninsula, driving through lava fields along the coast and there will be many classic Icelandic photo opportunities on our way. We will make sure to visit most popular sites at the national park such as Sönghellir and Vatnshellir cave.

Snæfellsnes glacier has been an inspiration to many poets and writers such as Juels Vern and our Nobel prize winner Halldór Laxness. Some believe it is one of the seven chakras in the world.
We will be hiking around beautiful old fishing village Arnarstapi. On our way we will enjoy the scenery and breathing in the sea breeze is quite memorable. Good idea to have fish and chips here for lunch.
On our way back we will visit Djúplónsandur referred to as black pearl beach and enjoy the sea breeze.

Stop At: Cave Vatnshellir, Snaefellsbaer Iceland
Vatnshellir lava cave is located in the Snæfellsnes national park. It is 8000 years old lava tube that reaches 200 meters and goes 35 meters below the surface. The entrance to the cave gives you a feeling you are entering some kind of a machine. Walking through a winding staircase gives you the feeling you are entering another world and the lava colours are breath taking.
Guests will be equipped with flashlights and helmets. It is cold in the cave so be sure to have your winter coats ready.

Stop At: Sönghellir Cave, 64°46'53.6"N 23°40'42.1"W, Iceland
Sönghellir or the Song Cave takes it name from its echoing quality. Guests should be sure to test their voices while visiting. It is interesting to see the walls of they cave because a lot of people have carved their name in it, and you just might actually spot someone you know.

Stop At: Djupalonssandur Beach, Utnesvegur, Hellnar Iceland
Next stop is Djúplónsandur. Here we will see a beautiful pebbled beach, high dramatic cliffs as well as black stone called pearls. A rests of a shipwrecks can be seen on the beach. There is also to be found stones on the beach that were used to measure whether Icelandic boys were strong enough to become fisherman. Travellers enjoy checking their strength during the visit to the beach

Stop At: Kirkjufell Mountain, Road 54, Grundarfjorour 350 Iceland
From Reykjavík we head to Borgarnes where we will have a WC stop and some might want to pick up some refreshment for the day. From there we drive to Snæfellsnes peninsula and enjoy the veiw of spectacular lava fields. We will see some beautiful mountains and one of them named Kirkjufell the most photgraphed mountain in the peninsula (Church moutain) and impressive landmark for fishingmans and travellers. It is without a doubt the most phopgraphed mountain in The country. The top of the montain changes colours with the each season. During the summers it is green during the winter it is barren brown and white. Within walking distance we stop by Kirkjufossar. Make sure to have the camera ready it is possible to take a photo of the water fall with the mountain in the background. Those that have seen game of thrones might regognize the surroundings since Kirkjufell was one of the shooting location for season7.

We will continue our drive and hopefully we can clearly see the Snæfells glacier which is the main attraction on the peninsula. It is quite amazing to be so close to this 1446-meter stratovolcano that towers over the National park of Snæfellsnes. The glacier has been a inspiration to many poets and writers such as Jules Vern that wrote the Journey to the Center of Earth and our Nobel prize winner Halldór Laxness for the book Under the glacier. Some believe that the glacier is one of the seven chakras in the world.
