Pass By: Copacabana, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

Famed for its crescent-shaped beach, Copacabana is one of Rio’s liveliest neighborhoods, drawing a cross-section of locals and visitors to round-the-clock activity along its sands and mosaic-tiled promenade. Amid the high-rises overlooking the beach are the art deco Copacabana Palace hotel and imposing Copacabana Fort, home to a military museum. Inland, laid-back sidewalk cafes and casual bars line tranquil streets.

Pass By: Ipanema, Ipanema, State of Minas Gerais

Fashionable Ipanema is known for its iconic namesake beach, which draws a diverse crowd for sunbathing and socializing. The rocky Pedra do Arpoador peninsula is a popular surfing spot that also offers trails and sunset views. Inland, the neighborhood’s leafy streets have high-end fashion boutiques, fine-dining restaurants and relaxed bars playing bossa nova.

Pass By: Leblon Beach, Avenida Ataulfo de Paiva, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro Brazil

Upscale Leblon is known for its beach, one of the city’s trendiest, most tranquil stretches of sand. Inland, leafy streets have restaurants ranging from cozy French bistros to lively steakhouses, plus mellow bars for beers and caipirinhas. Shopping options include designer fashion boutiques and Shopping Leblon, a modern mall. Teatro do Leblon is a grassroots venue with a packed, eclectic program.

Pass By: Sao Conrado, Sao Conrado, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

Framed by the peaks of Dois Irmãos and Pedra da Gávea, São Conrado is a seaside enclave known for its condominiums, luxury hotels and the large, upmarket Fashion Mall. Hang gliders land on Praia do Pepino’s breezy surf beach, while the more secluded Praia da Joatinga attracts swimmers and sunbathers. The renowned Rocinha favela, or slum, sprawls across nearby hillsides.

Pass By: Barra da Tijuca, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

Barra da Tijuca is a sprawling suburb of upmarket condos and shopping centers anchored by long, scenic Barra Beach. Other sandy stretches include trendy Praia do Pepê and the surf-friendly areas of Recreio and Macumba, where casual bars and seafood restaurants line the seafront. Inland, much of the action takes place at giant malls like BarraShopping, with cinemas, trendy clubs, gourmet eateries and bowling alleys.

Pass By: Praia do Secreto, Avenida Estado da Guanabara 1102 Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro 22790-852 Brazil

With only twelve meters of length, Secreto has become an alternative to the famous beaches of the carioca West Zone. In reality, it is a natural pool surrounded by rocks and away from the buildings and the fast life of the city. To get there, all you need to do is take the Estrada do Pontal towards Prainha and leave the car at setback by the trail, or by the Mirante da Prainha.

There is no sign to indicate the entrance to the trail which opens a path across the woods, but it is still easy to locate it. After approximately five minutes hiking in an incredible environment, the adventures must climb down a rock wall fifteen meters tall to reach the sea. It is recommended that you go with sneakers, as the rock wall is steep and slippery in some points. Swimming in Praia do Secreto depends on the tide, therefore, before preparing to go there, check if the tide is too high or too low, because in either case the “pool” disappears.

Stop At: Pedra do Telegrafo, Rua Almirante Carlos Tinoco 432 500 Barra de Guaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro 23020-260 Brazil

Looking towards the city you can see wild beaches Praia do Perigoso and Praia do Meio, as well as other areas like Grumari, Recreio, Barra da Tijuca, Pedra da Gávea. On the other side you'll see Restringa de Marambaia – almost 43 km long sand strip.

    Duration: 4 hours

Stop At: Abrico Beach, Grumari, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro Brazil

Crystal clear beach, surrounded by mountains and tropical vegetation, Abricó beach stays in Grumari, near Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the West of the city. Located inside of the biological reserve of the Municipal Park Grumari, after Prainha and Grumari beaches, is currently the unique beach destined to naturist practice in the whole city. It’s officially linked to the Brazilian Naturist Federation.

Although the public transport leaves the passengers over 5km from the beach, there’s a paved road that allows the close access to the beach.

    Duration: 15 minutes

Pass By: Praia de Grumari, Av. Estado da Guanabara, s/n, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro 23020-240 Brazil

The area is environmental preservation, that’s why has closed gates and restrict access. The scenery reminds native beaches with strong waves, where buildings are prohibited. The place is visited daily by surfers who seek chances for big waves. Almost always finding what they look for. The waves use to break before arriving to the bathers, the ones who enjoy the little cold wave, making Grumari the ideal beach to both groups.

Stop At: Prainha Beach, Av. Estado da Guanabara, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro 22790-877 Brazil

Beautiful secluded sandy beach & surf spot in a bay backed by forest wilderness.
