You have a very exciting day ahead today. One of the reasons why Peru holidays are so wonderful is that you get to experience so many different things. You will be journeying for four and a half hours this morning into the heart of the reserve to the research centre. You won’t see any more people about, just plenty of intriguing wild animals.

Along the way you will stop at the Chuncho clay lick. Due to the fact that the clay includes so much sodium, wild macaw fly from all over to feed. It’s an incredible sight to see and not one that a lot of people get to see.

A little later on you will enjoy a three to five kilometre Peru trek to an overlook to see the magnificent site of the river meandering down through the rainforest. You might get to see a few monkeys along the way.

After dinner this evening, you will receive and informative talk about macaws and get to understand a bit more about the threats to their conservation. It can be a real eye opener after you’ve already seen them feeding earlier in the day.

On your Peru itinerary today is a visit to another claylick. This one is particularly great for seeing all kinds of macaws and various small parrot species. It’s a wonderful thing to see as these species are rare in the wild and not many humans get to witness this. It’s best to go at dawn when most of the birds go to feed.

Next up is another trail that leads you through a fantastic route of very interesting looking trees, creeks, and ponds. It’s another great place for monkey spotting, so make sure you take your camera.

If you are a fan of birds then you’ll love the stop at the pond platform. You’ll see a variety of water-frequenting birds, as well as other species including woodpeckers, flycatchers and parakeets.

In the evening you will get another chance to go on a night walk, if you wish. It’s a final chance to get to see any animals you haven’t already done.

You head here first to help to adjust to the altitude as Cusco is at 3,400m and the valley is around 2900m.

Take some time today to be able to enjoy your new surroundings and adjust to the higher altitude. It may be a good time enjoy some coca tea. Next on the days itinerary is Moray. This is an Incan archaeological site that looks very different to the others. It almost looks as though a UFO landed there! It’s a collection of large terraced circles that are perfectly crafted.

Your final stop is at the Pisac archaeological site. This is set up high above the small town and offers some great views across the landscape. Here you will see some other types of Incan constructions as well as tombs built into the rock. It’s one of the best ruins to visit as it’s in a greater state than the rest.
