    Today you will enjoy a panoramic tour of Bucharest that will include: the Constitution Square, the University Square, Charles de Gaulle Square, the Victory Avenue and the Victory Square, the Arch of Triumph, the House of the Free Press, the Union Boulevard. The tour guide will offer you explanation about the history of Bucharest and you will discover the cultural contrasts of the once Little Paris of the East.

    Day 3: Bucharest – Sinaia – Bran – Brasov

    Stop At: Peles Castle, Str. Pelesului 2, Sinaia 106100 Romania
    The Peles Castle, built in two stages between 1875 and 1914, was the summer residence of King Carol Ist and his wife, Queen Elisabeth. You’ll visit the ground floor where you’ll be astonished by the overwhelming interiors, amazing stain-glass windows, paintings, some of them made by famous artists such as Gustav Klimt.

    Stop At: Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle), Str. General Traian Mosoiu nr. 24, Bran 507025 Romania
    Visit the famous Bran Castle also known as Dracula’s castle. It was a safeguard castle for the trade route that connected Transylvania and Wallachia, built by the people of Brasov in the 14th century.
    For tourists this place is the residence of the fictional character, Count Dracula. In reality, Bran Castle is connected to Queen Marie of Romania. Her story is equally interesting with the one of Dracula, if not more interesting.
    During the warm season, official holidays, and the weekends, the castle is very crowded.

    In the afternoon, you will enjoy a short walking tour in the old town of Brasov. You’ll admire the beautiful buildings like the Black Church* which is built in the Gothic style. Also, you will see the narrowest street in Romania, Rope Street, Schei and Catherine’s Gates, St. Nicholas Church, and the old Schei neighborhood.
    *The Black Church will be seen only from outside during the cold months (from November until April)

    Day 4: Brasov - Viscri - Sighisoara - Sibiu

    Stop At: Viscri Fortified Church, Viscri 507039 Romania
    It’s time to discover the forgotten world of the former Saxon villages. On the way to Sighisoara, we’ll make a detour to the remote village of Viscri, a great UNESCO site. There are just 2 or 3 dirt roads in Viscri, the main one being quite wide. This road is lined on both sides with beautiful and traditional houses, built in the Saxon style. At the outskirts of the village, perched on a hill, there is the fortified church of Viscri, one of the oldest fortified churches in Transylvania. You will visit the church and the small museum located at the entrance.

    Stop At: Sighisoara Historic Center, Piata Cetatii Nr.1 Center of Sighisoara, Sighisoara 545400 Romania
    Sighisoara, another UNESCO site in Transylvania, is the next stop on your trip. Built by the Germans about 800 years ago, the medieval citadel of Sighisoara looks like a perfect postcard. It is the best-preserved citadel in Romania, a stunning combination of cobblestone streets, medieval walls, massive watchtowers and old architecture.
    Visit the Clock Tower and the Church on the Hill.

    Day 5: Sibiu - Hunedoara - Alba Iulia - Cluj Napoca

    Stop At: Sibiu, Sibiu, Sibiu County, Central Romania, Transylvania
    You will start the day with a short walking tour in Sibiu old town.
    Hermanstadt, to use its German name, was founded by the Saxon colonists about 800 years ago. In a short time, Sibiu became one of the most important cities of Transylvania. Sibiu boasts several medieval squares (the Large Square, the Small Square, the Huet Square), several towers of Defense, the Roman-Catholic Cathedral, the Evangelic Cathedral, the Bridge of Liars, the Orthodox Cathedral, the Council Tower and the beautiful Brukenthal Museum.

    Stop At: Castelul Corvinilor, Strada Castelului 1-3, Hunedoara 331141 Romania
    Then, you’ll be transferred to Hunedoara for the spookiest buildings of Europe, the Corvin Castle. Built around the 14th century, it became an important stronghold of Transylvania. At this castle, you’ll find out two interesting legends and you’ll roam through the halls of this impressive Gothic castle. More than that, you’ll be astonished to discover the real place where Dracula was imprisoned according to the legend.

    Stop At: Citadel of Alba Iulia, Calea Motilor, nr. 5A, Alba Iulia 510134 Romania
    In the afternoon, you’ll get to see the biggest and the best preserved Vauban-like citadel in Romania. Built at the beginning of the 18th century, the citadel of Alba Iulia has been restored recently to its once former glory. Besides the two cathedrals, the Orthodox and the Catholic, you’ll be shown the intricate gates of the citadel, the 3rd gate being the most impressive. The old Roman castrum and the medieval citadel known as Balgrad are now integrated into the Austrian citadel. Their ruins are part of the tour.

    Day 6: Cluj Napoca - Surdesti - Sighet - Sapanta - Maramures village

    Stop At: Surdesti Wooden Church, Surdesti Romania
    Visit the UNESCO site of Surdesti. The local wooden church, built in the 18th century, is an amazing example of the local architecture, a wooden church surrounded by a well-preserved rural landscape.

    Stop At: Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance, Str. Corneliu Coposu No. 4, Sighetu Marmatiei 435500 Romania
    Visit a former prison where during the communist years many important Romanian leaders, but also common people who were against the regime, lost their lives. It is here where you will hear more about the horrors of the communist regime.

    In Sapanta village you will admire the famous Merry Cemetery. It has gained originality and value by means of the chopped, carved, and painted crosses on which the artisan has chiseled out versified epitaphs, most of them full of a remarkable sense of humor, particularly to the area and to all Romanians.

    Stop to admire the highest wooden structure in the world: Peri Convent, recently rebuilt.

    Day 7: Maramures – Satu Mare (RO) – Tokaj Region (HU) – Eger

    Stop At: Tokaj, Tokaj, Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen County, Northern Hungary
    Admire the countryside and stop in Tokaj Wine region to visit an old wine cellar. Enjoy a wine tasting session and discover why Tokaj wine is considered to be one of the best white wines in the world. The story says that delighted with the drink, Louis XV of France offered a glass of Tokaj wine to Madame de Pompadour, referring to it as “The Wine of Kings, The King of Wines”.

    Day 8: Eger - Budapest

    Stop At: Eger, Eger, Heves County, Northern Hungary
    With over 1000 years of history, Eger owes its fame to the beautiful and imposing buildings designed in Baroque architectural style, the winemaking culture, and the religious institutions.
    You will start the walk from the Main Square of Eger, called Dobo Ter, after the brave captain, Istvan Dobo, who managed to defend the city fortress and Northern Hungary in 1552 against the expanding of the Turkish Empire. An interesting legend is related to this episode and for sure you will find it out during the tour. You will see Istvan Dobo’s statue in the square and visit the elegant Minority Church. Continue to roam on the Baroque streets and reach the medieval Eger citadel, symbol of the city. Perched on a hill and overlooking the city, Eger citadel was the set of many battles between the Hungarians and the Ottomans. On your way down, you will pass by a Minaret, which is the Northernmost Ottoman minaret in Europe, and then head to the impressive Eger Basilica.

    Day 9: Budapest

    Stop At: Hungarian Parliament Building, Kossuth Ter 1-3, Budapest 1055 Hungary
    In the first part of the trip, you will walk around the famous Palace of the Parliament, inaugurated in 1902 and designed by Imre Steindl, who was inspired by London’s Houses of Parliament. It is the third-largest Parliament buildings in the world and a symbol of Budapest, conveniently located along the Danube River.

    Cross the Danube River on the Chain Bridge and reach the Buda Hill. The Chain Bridge was the first permanent stone bridge connecting Pest and Buda built-in 1849. At each end, it is guarded by 2 lions. It became a symbol of anti-communist resistance, as people demonstrated for freedom on the same bridge.

    Furthermore, you will get on the top of Buda Hill and see Buda Castle. Since the 13th century it suffered many changes. The today’s design dates back to the 18th century, from the time of King Charles and his daughter, Empress Maria Theresa. Even though it was badly damaged during WWII, it was renovated and brought to its former glory. The view from the gardens is exquisite and offers a splendid panorama over the Pest sector of the city.

    Pass By: Fishermen's Bastion, Szentharomsag Ter, Budapest Hungary
    Next, continue to explore the Castle District and visit the Fishermen Bastion built-in 1905. It is a combination of Neo-Gothic and Neo-Romanesque architecture and consists of turrets, projections, parapets, and climbing stairways. Its 7 towers are symbolizing the 7 Hungarian tribes that came from Asia and settled here in 896. It guarantees a great view over some landmarks like the Hungarian Palace of the Parliament, Margaret Island, St Stephen’s Basilica, the Academy of Sciences, the Chain Bridge.

    Stop At: Statue of St Stephen, Szentharomsag ter 5., Budapest 1014 Hungary
    Next to the Fishermen Bastion lies the statue of Saint Stephen, the first king of Hungary. Next to it, one can admire Mathias Church built for the first time in the 13th century. It was many times modified, but it never lost its splendor.
