The Vienna State Opera is one of the most important opera houses in the world, the building is part of the Ringstrasse.
Adolf Hitler admired the beauty of the Ringstrasse. He was also an opera fan, went to the opera very often. From Alfred Roller, set designer at the opera, Adolf Hitler copied various special effects, e.g. the dome of light, to use these effects later for the Nazi propaganda.

During the Second World War around 25 % of the buildings in Vienna were destroyed during bomb attacks. A bomb also hit the Philipphof behind the opera, and several hundred people had died. We're visiting the site, where after the Second World War the Memorial Against War and Fascism was created.

On March 15th in 1938 A. Hitler announced the 'Anschluss', when Austria disappeared from the map to become part of Nazi-Germany. This announcement was done by Hitler from a terrace at Hofburg, speaking to up to 300,000 Austrians. This place in the city centre of Vienna has been a topic of discussion in Austria since.
But what were the political circumstances that led to 'Anschluss'? We're going to deliver some answers.

A few years before the 'Anschluss' the National Socialists failed with a coup d'etat in Vienna and shot the chancellor of Austria, Engelbert Dollfuss. The building still exists, in front of it, we talk about the time between WW1 and WW2 and, of course, about the failed coup d'etat.
